Markus Schwaninger is the co-founder and CFO at ecoligo, a solar utility that provides low-cost solar energy to businesses in Africa. By financing the solar systems through its crowdinvesting platform, the company closes the finance gap that prevents these projects from being realised. Prior to ecoligo, Markus worked as Project Manager for the German development organisation (GIZ) and was responsible for advising solar companies entering the markets in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Myanmar. His role included consulting on business model development, regulation and financing options. He is a certified expert in renewable energy finance. Markus was actively involved when the renewable energy market development in Kenya kicked-off when he lived in the country in 2010 and 2011 and worked on carbon credit and renewable energy projects.
