UK Head - Project & Acquisition Finance, SANTANDER
Alejandro is an Executive Director at Santander Global Banking & Markets, the international wholesale banking division of Banco Santander. Alejandro joined Santander Global Banking and Markets’ Project & Acquisition finance department in 2006 as part of the global energy practice of the bank. During this first stage of his professional career at Santander he focused on the financing of renewable energy projects located in continental Europe and North America across a variety of different technologies including solar photovoltaic, onshore wind and concentrated solar power. In 2008 Alejandro relocated to London in order to enhance Santander’s presence in Continental Europe expanding his remit to the financing of conventional and renewable energy power projects as well as regulated utilities. He is currently the head of Santander’s Project & Acquisition department in London and responsible for the origination, execution and distribution of non-recourse project finance loans across the energy and infrastructure sectors in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia. Throughout his tenure at Santander Alejandro has led the structuring, execution and negotiation of over 25 transactions in the renewable energy sector in multiple geographies including, amongst others, the acquisition of a minority stake by PGGM and Ampere equity fund in the Walney offshore wind farm, Meerwind; Blackstone’s first investment in the offshore wind sector, the first project bond financing of an offshore wind transmission asset (Greater Gabbard) and most recently, the acquisition financing and refinancing of several portfolios of assets by some of the most prominent UK-listed renewable energy infrastructure vehicles such as Greencoat, Foresight Solar or Infinis . Prior to joining Santander, Alejandro was a management consultant in the energy sector with DiamondCluster International (now Oliver Wyman). Alejandro holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas-ICADE and a M.Sc. in Applied Economics from Marquette University (U.S.A).
